Breaking Down The Latest Internet Rumor - Juwan Howard Is Stepping Down Because He Allegedly Punched The Michigan Strength And Conditioning Coach
At some point last night we started hitting the latest Internet rumor and it's a good one. Hell, Michigan was playing last night even! But the newest rumor is that Juwan Howard would be stepping down as head coach because he got into a fight with the strength and conditioning coach. First off, if it's true, gotta give credit to Juwan. He's fighting someone who can go toe to toe with him. This isn't a trainer or an opposing assistant coach. This is a strength and conditioning coach, we know they are all a little crazy. If anything I'd want that to happen, help fire the boys up.
Brendan put the statement above there. He's pretty locked in when it comes to Michigan. The biggest one is that Juwan is still the coach. That's the whole thing here. A little locker room scrap? That's nothing. I mean it's something, but I don't think you fire a guy over that. Even if Juwan is on a zero tolerance policy, there's gotta be a whole lot more going on and a real punch thrown in order for it to lead to more. Luckily I have an inside source on all things Michigan who cleared it up:
Open and shut case right there. If that's not enough we have another independent source who stays neutral on Michigan saying some things
Now the whole Michigan staff thing is weird right now. You have Juwan Howard making his way back from surgery and is on the bench as an assistant as Phil Martelli still acts as the head coach. That'll eventually switch, at least that's the plan. But I don't ever recall a situation where you have the real head coach on the bench and not be the head coach.
This all apparently happened on Friday too. If so, why would Howard be on the bench? That's why I'm skeptical on the whole Howard stepping down thing. So you have a coach that likes to scrap from time to time? Isn't that what matters. Well, that and winning in March.
